How buying tires works here
- Find your size. It's the code on the sidewall, something like 265/70R17. Not sure what it means? Our tire size reader breaks it down.
- Call or text (865) 333-9959. Send the size and tell us how you drive. A truck that pulls a camper up to Wears Valley needs a different tire than a car that lives on the Parkway.
- Pick from the options we send. We'll give you a couple of choices and the price before you commit to anything.
- Book a time. We mount them, balance them and set the pressure. You can wait in the lounge with a cold drink.
Brands we put on
Bridgestone and Firestone both list us on their dealer locators. We've also been mounting Vredestein, like the set at the top of this page.
The Terra Grapplers in the photo went on a Toyota Tundra in our bay. If you've got a brand in mind already, say so when you text and we'll check on it.
When it's time for new tires
Tennessee's legal minimum is 2/32 of an inch of tread, and a tire at that depth is already slow to stop in the rain. Put a penny in the shallowest groove with Lincoln's head pointing down. If you can see the top of his head, you're there. You can also try our tread check.
Tread isn't the only reason. Cracks in the sidewall, a bulge, or one edge worn smooth while the rest looks fine all mean a tire should come off, and uneven wear usually points to alignment or pressure that's been off for a while.
Only one tire bad? We'll tell you honestly whether replacing one or two makes sense on your vehicle. All-wheel drive is picky about mismatched tread, so it isn't always the cheaper answer.
Questions we get
Straight answers
How do I find my tire size?
It's printed on the sidewall, a code like 265/70R17: the width in millimeters, the sidewall height as a percent of that width, R for radial, and the wheel size in inches. It's also on the sticker inside the driver's door. Text us a photo of either and we'll read it for you.
Do I need an appointment for new tires?
Yes. We work by appointment only, Monday through Friday, 7:30 to 3:30. Call or text (865) 333-9959 and we'll find a time.
How much tread is legal in Tennessee?
2/32 of an inch. The penny test is a quick check: put Lincoln's head down into the groove, and if you can see the top of his head, the tire is at or below 2/32.
Should I replace all four tires at once?
Not always. On a front- or rear-wheel-drive vehicle, a matching pair is often fine if the other two have good tread, and the newer pair usually goes on the back. All-wheel-drive vehicles are pickier about different tread depths, so check your owner's manual or ask us.
